The Franklin County courthouse, now undergoing a $29 million renovation

FRANKFORT, Kentucky: Work has begun on a new judicial center in Frankfort, Kentucky's capital seat.[1]

The extensive renovation and expansion of the existing county courthouse is expected to cost $29 million and to be finished in 2013. The current courthouse, built in the Greek revival style, is 176 years old and was no longer able to meet current space and design needs. The expansion will be wrapped around the existing building so as to preserve and highlight its history and architectural features.

Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton presided over the groundbeaking ceremony.[1]
