Grant awarded to preserve court records
August 22nd, 2011
Vermont: The Vermont State Archives and Records Administration also known as VSARA was recently awarded a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). The $118,078 grant will help the funding towards preserving and making the archived court records more accessible. [1]
The court records of Vermont have had a history of being difficult to access and now face the dangers of physical deterioration. The preservation project will start in October and take 22 months to complete. Once done, the project will provide access to over 446 cubic feet of case files, recording books, and dockets from the Caledonia, Lamoille, and Orleans County Courts.[1]
This Vermont project is only one of the nineteen projects that the NHPRC is funding around the United States this year. The NHPRC is affiliated with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), and supports various activities that help preserve, publish, and encourage the use of documentary sources that relate to United States history.[1]
