A Jackson City Fire Station Sales Tax Increase measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the city of Jackson, which is in Cape Girardeau County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 3,073 (63.22%) Approveda
  • NO 1,788 (36.78%)[1]

This measure sought to allow a quarter cent increase in the sales taxes within the city in order to build a new satellite fire station on a new parcel of land. Some city aldermen were against the location proposed for the new station, because the land was already owned by the city, and they did not feel that it meant that was the best place to put the new station. But due to increased property prices that location was picked to save on costs. The purpose of the new station was for the fire officials to be able to serve more members of the city.[2]
