Mark Philip Painter
Mark Philip Painter was a judge on the Ohio First District Court of Appeals. He left the court in order "to become a judge for the United Nations Appeals Tribunal that deals with disciplinary and work-related issues at the U.N."[1]
Education
Judge Painter was born in Norwood, Ohio. He attended the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a B.A. degree in 1970 and a J.D. degree in 1973. He is now married.
Career
Before becoming a judge, Painter worked as a lawyer, practicing mostly with a law firm that later became part of Thompson Hine. In March of 1982, he was appointed to the Hamilton County Municipal Court, where he worked for 13 years. At 34, he was one of the youngest judges ever in Hamilton County. He was elected to a full term in 1983 and again in 1989. He was then elected to the Ohio District Courts of Appeal in 1994, and was re-elected without opposition in 2000 and 2006.[2][3] He was a candidate for a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court in 1992.[4]
Accomplishments
Judge Painter is one of the most-published judges ever. He has written over 400 opinions, 6 books, and over 130 articles.
He has taught agency and partnership as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law since 1990 and was named the Chesley Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2008. He has lectured around the country for various law seminars, associations, firms and schools. [5]
