Long named administrative judge of Maryland circuit court

Annapolis, Maryland: In a press release on July 13th, the Maryland Judiciary Office of Communications and Public Affairs announced the appointment of Judge M. Kenneth Long, Jr. as administrative judge for the Washington County (4th) Circuit Court in Maryland. Chief Judge Robert M. Bell, of the Court of Appeals, made the appointment, which went into effect on June 29, 2011. Long replaced Judge John H. McDowell, who had served as administrative judge since 2008. Long's new duties involve general supervision of court employees and the assignment of cases to judges. He will continue to hear cases like all the other judges as well. Judge McDowell said of his successor, "He is, of all of us, the best person for the job, and I'm elated that he was the one appointed to take my place."

Long's previous experience includes work as a private practitioner (1973 - 1979), an assistant (and later deputy) state's attorney (1979 - 1982), the state's attorney for Washington County (1982 - 2004) and a District Court judge (2004 - 2006). He stated, "I look forward to continuing to work with and serve the people of Washington County."
