An effort in Camilla, Georgia, to recall city council members Lewis Campbell Jr., Vivian Smith, W.D. Palmer, and Annie Doris Willingham from their positions was launched in March 2016. Supporters of the recall delivered petitions to the city on March 21, 2016.[1][2][3] The city elections manager verified the petitions in May 2016, but Judge Wayne Ellerby ruled that there were insufficient grounds for a recall on June 14, 2016.[4][5]
Recall supporters
The Citizens of Camilla Evolutionary Organization sought the recall of Campbell, Smith, Palmer, and Willingham based on allegations of violations of state open meeting laws. The recall petition also noted changes to public participation rules at meetings and a reduction in monthly meetings.[1]

Recall organizers needed valid signatures from at least 100 city residents who voted in the 2013 election for each city councilmember. The city elections manager certified the signatures and state law requires a judge to determine if recall elections have sufficient grounds to be placed on the ballot.[1] An initial filing deadline of March 3, 2016, was not met by recall supporters. The revised deadline for petition submission to the clerk was March 21, 2016.[2]
