Hi, I'm Amy Slepr. I've lived in Michigan over 30 yrs. Mostly in the Mount Pleasant area. I have an amazing husband, two beautiful daughters, and a 6mo old granddaughter. We have come to realize that the government is no longer reflecting true democracy. It is no longer "Of, For, or By" the people. We need candidates that will get back to our roots and amplify the voices of all people.
  • Universal Healthcare for ALL
  • Make minimum wage a livable wage
  • Treat all fellow citizens with equity and equality.
I'm personally passionate about changing policies that impact our everyday lives. No one should be without healthcare, especially during a pandemic. No one should be incarcerated for smoking a joint. Everyone should be able to afford basic needs, like shelter, food, clean water, and utilities. No one should be murdered by police while sleeping in bed. Our systems need changed.
I look up to my sister, she works harder than anyone I know. Politically I would follow the example of Gandhi. He chose a life of hardship in order to make a better life for disadvantaged people.
To listen and be able to make decisions to better the lives of the people.
I see the need for change, and doing something about it.
The Challenger exploded. I was in 3rd grade. We were in class watching it because my teacher was excited about a teacher in space. We were horrified when it blew up.
Isabella County Fairgrounds for a summer
"The Stand" by Stephen King. It demonstrates how we can survive, if we work together.
"Shatter me" by Lzzy Hale and Lindsey Sterling.
My struggle is both a strength and weakness. I trust people to easily. It has, in the past, put me in character building situations. But I have grown from those experiences.
I think we should do away with districting. If we need 15 Representatives for our state, then we get a pool of 30 or so candidates. Use Rank Choice Voting to elect the top 15.
It can be beneficial. But experience doesn't always make the person. Character and drive should be relevant factors as well.
There should be a limit of 10 years for any government office.
Not really. I'd like to start a different trend of Representatives actually representing.
I have a neighbor that is about to be evicted. She never received a stimulus check, was denied unemployment, even though her essential job reduced her hours, and hasn't received hazard pay. Eviction during this time should be stopped! Millions of people are about to be homeless, and our government seems ok with that.
