He lives in Centennial (Arapahoe County) with his wife Stacey Stegman Edling. He is a proud stepdad to Dylan (former Marine) and dad to Stella, the Goldendoodle.- Leadership & Experience. Do you feel safer today than you did 4 years ago? I have knocked on over 3,000 doors and the resounding answer to this question is "No". With my 30 years of police experience in progressive leadership roles, I will lead the men & women of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office back to the basics of law enforcement and holding criminals accountable. We must hold our elected leaders accountable. My opponent has failed Arapahoe County and we are less safe today because of his poor progressive policies, e.g. refusing to allow criminals into the Arapahoe County jail unless they had a bond amount of at least $2500. Our jail is less than half full and we have car thieves preying on our residents. Simply unacceptable.
- Proven crimefighter. Crime is up in Arapahoe County. Car thefts are up by more than 139%, violent crime is up, property crime is up, even DUI fatality crashes have increased by 42% while DUI arrests have fallen by more than 32%. I have personally arrested over 757 DUI drivers during my 30 year career and I will be your law & order Sheriff that brings Arapahoe County back to "common-sense".
- Crime is not partisan. Nobody asked your neighbor if they were a Democrat, Republican, or unaffiliated before they stole your neighbor's car. People are tired of extreme left and extreme right--let's get back to center and good old fashioned "common-sense".
Mental Health - Our country is experiencing an unprecedented mental health crisis. I will make it mandatory for all deputies to be certified in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) which is not currently a requirement. I was the lead instructor for CIT beginning back in 2004 and have trained hundreds of officers throughout the metro area in its use. Officers receive de-escalation techniques that help defuse a critical situation using their most powerful weapon—their mouth. This week-long training is invaluable to our deputies and will result in a decrease in the number of uses of force (including deadly force) and decrease the number of injuries to both deputies and those in crisis.
