Campaign themes

2016

Francis' campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Campaign Finance & Corruption in Albany

We can't build a better, stronger future together when our government is stuck in perpetual gridlock and dysfunction. We must keep fighting until we fundamentally reform Albany once-and-for-all. Shaun Francis has a multi-point plan to end the corruption and dysfunction in Albany.

  • Full time legislature
  • Ban or limit outside income
  • Close the so-called "LLC Loophole"
  • Real campaign finance reform with publicly funded elections
  • Independent redistricting
  • Chamber leadership term-limits
  • Prohibit using taxpayer dollars for political campaign mailings
  • Pension forfeiture for convicted corrupt legislators

Clean, Safe, Healthy Drinking Water For All

Clean water is a right - not a privilege. When the water we drink is no longer safe, our government has failed us. We need real legislative hearings - not political side shows - to find out how the water in Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh became contaminated, who is responsible, and how far the contamination has spread - and we need real solutions to prevent this type of contamination from ever happening again, anywhere in New York State.

Growing Our Main Streets

Our region has wonderful, growing and vibrant downtowns. Whether it is Broadway in Saratoga Springs, Warren Street in Hudson, the revitalized Downtown Troy, or the many other thriving villages and towns, we must work to make sure that we are always improving these social, economic, and employment sectors of our communities. We must find new ways to help small businesses grow so that we can create jobs for middle class families.

Rebuild the Modern Infrastructure of Today & Build the Modern Infrastructure of Tomorrow

Our infrastructure is literally crumbling beneath our feet. Our roads and bridges are falling apart, and our water supplies are failing because we have not made sound economic investment in these systems. It is time to put people back to work rebuilding our roads and bridges, and bringing our drinking water systems up to modern standards.

And we have to look forward to the future. New York State cannot compete in the modern global economy until we connect every resident and every corner of our great state with reliable, affordable, high-speed internet.

Quality Public Education Regardless of Zip Code

It is long past time to get government out of the classroom and let teachers do what they know how to do best - educate our children and prepare them for tomorrow. We must end the failed Common Core standards, and return our focus to classroom instruction and creative thinking instead of forcing teachers to teach to high-stakes tests. Most importantly, we must work to ensure that the zip code that a child is born in, does not determine her chance for a bright future with a sound education.[1]
