Jason Weinerman was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 9 of the Minnesota State Senate.

Campaign themes

2016

Weinerman's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Supporting Local Government

  • I will work with my fellow legislators from greater Minnesota to ensure the state properly funds the needs of our rural governments to meet the needs of the local residents. I will also seek to reduce redundant and overly burdensome regulations that handicap our local governments and get in the way of creating local solutions to local problems.

Working Families

  • I will work to ensure that workers are fairly compensated and rewarded for their labor. This includes providing a fair wage, enhancing paid leave for sickness, improving access to health and child care, and ensuring a retirement system that will provide our seniors with the necessary retirement resources.

Education

  • I will work to increase funding to K-12 to enhance classroom instruction and provide the required support for all students while removing unnecessary layers of administration. I will also seek ways to drive down the cost of tuitition for our students who choose to attend one of our great state colleges or universities.

Environment and Energy

  • We need to continue protecting the water that is good and improving the water that is not so good. We will need to work together to make sure that we are doing our part to keep our water healthy and not harm our downstream neighbors. With changes in the climate and increases in our population, we need work hard to meet today's water needs while preserving our water heritage for future generations.
  • We are starting to see the promises of renewable energies and must continue to provide incentives that encourage the building of wind and solar farms on a large scale and to help the individual property owner who wants to do her or his part to reduce the use of fossil fuels. As a state, we also must create the environment where energy companies effectively and fairly use the energy produced from all sources.[1]
