Lawton E. Stephens
Lawton Evans Stephens is a judge of the Western Circuit of Georgia.[1] He was first appointed to the court in 1991 by Governor Zell Miller. He most recently won re-election in 2012 for a term expiring in 2016.[2] Stephens was chief judge of the Western Circuit from 2003 to 2012.[3]
Education
Stephens received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977 and his J.D. from the University of Georgia in 1981.[4][5]
Career
Between 1987 and 1991, Stephens was a state representative in the Georgia House of Representatives. He was a private practice attorney for 10 years, including 3 years with his father in the firm Stephens and Stephens.[6]
2012 election
Stephens ran unopposed for re-election to the Western Superior Court.[7] He was re-elected after receiving 99.7% of the vote in the July 31 election.[2]
