Ballotpedia:Trial Courts

The Indiana superior courts are general jurisdiction trial courts within the state that handle all trial cases and can establish small claims cases and minor offense divisions. Nearly all counties in Indiana have a superior court in addition to their circuit courts.[1][2]

Judges

Indiana superior court judges are usually chosen in partisan elections. There are a few exceptions to this rule. In Vanderburgh County and Allen County, elections are nonpartisan. In the latter, the governor fills interim vacancies from a list of candidates submitted by a judicial nominating commission. In Lake County and St. Joseph County, judges are chosen through a merit selection process.[3]
