Amy L. Nechtem

Amy L. Nechtem is the chief justice for the juvenile courts in Massachusetts. She concurrently presides over the juvenile court in Essex County, Massachusetts.[1] Her term expires when she reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70.[2]
On May 9, 2014, Nechtem was appointed to serve as chief justice of the juvenile courts by the chief justice for the trial courts, Paula M. Carey. She assumed the office of chief justice on July 30, 2014. She replaced Michael F. Edgerton, who left the bench after reaching the mandatory retirement age.[3]
Education
Nechtem earned an undergraduate degree from Simmons College. She was awarded a J.D. from the Suffolk University Law School.[3]
Career
Prior to being appointed as a justice, Nechtem served as a prosecutor in Suffolk County where she handled child abuse cases.[3]
