Andrew G. Ceresia is a judge for the 3rd Department of the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. He assumed office on January 4, 2022. His current term ends on December 31, 2030.
Ceresia is also a judge of the New York Supreme Court 3rd Judicial District. His current term ends on January 1, 2031.
Ceresia ran for re-election for judge of the New York Supreme Court 3rd Judicial District. He won in the general election on November 8, 2016.
He served as a judge on the Rensselaer County Court from 2009 to 2016. He also previously served as an acting justice of the New York Supreme Court 3rd Judicial District.[1]
Education
Ceresia received his J.D. from Albany Law School.[1]
Career
Ceresia was elected town judge of North Greenbush in 2004. He served there until his appointment to the Rensselaer County Court in 2009. He also worked as an appellate court attorney for the Third Department of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division from 2005 to 2009. He worked as a judge for the Supreme Court 3rd Judicial District in New York from 2016 to 2022.[1]

New York held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on September 13, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wish to run in this election was July 14, 2016.[2] Andrew G. Ceresia and Michael Mackey were unopposed in the general election for two open seats on the New York Supreme Court 3rd Judicial District.[3]

The 324 justices of the New York Supreme Court are elected to 14-year terms in partisan elections. To appear on the ballot, candidates must be chosen at partisan nominating conventions. Sitting judges wishing to serve an additional term must run for re-election.[4]
The chief judge of the court of appeals appoints two chief administrative judges of the supreme court, one to supervise trial courts within New York City and one to supervise trial courts outside of the city.[4]
Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must:[4]
- be a state resident;
- have had at least 10 years of in-state law practice;
- be at least 18 years old; and
- be under the age of 70 (retirement at 70 is mandatory).
