Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised right here in Hillsborough County where three generations of my family chose to make this sunny spot their home. I live on Davis Islands with my husband, Jonathan, and our two young boys. When I'm not playing in the yard with the boys, I am working with students, teachers and schools in districts across the nation and volunteering and teaching at the Children's Ministries at Hyde Park United Methodist Church and South Tampa Community Bible Study. Every decade of my life has been connected to Hillsborough County Public Schools. I graduated from this district, chose to work in this district, and now my own children attend school in Hillsborough County. I worked for Hillsborough County Public Schools for fifteen years: as a classroom teacher at Gibsonton Elementary in 2nd and 5th grades; as a literacy coach at Springhead and Lincoln Magnet Schools in Plant City; as the Assistant Principal of Corr Elementary in Apollo Beach; and as a District Reading Resource Teacher, supporting all 144 elementary schools in implementing effective literacy practices. I have a vested interest in the success of this district and I am the only candidate with detailed knowledge of Hillsborough County Public Schools and experience working in districts across the nation. As a life-long educator, public schools advocate, and mother of two boys who attend public school, it is my mission to ensure that ALL students receive an exceptional education by design, not by chance.

Education, literacy, equity.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I worked for Hillsborough County Public Schools for fifteen years:

As a classroom teacher at Gibsonton Elementary in 2nd and 5th grades
As a literacy coach at Springhead and Lincoln Magnet Schools in Plant City
As the Assistant Principal of Corr Elementary in Apollo Beach

As a District Reading Resource Teacher, supporting all 144 elementary schools in implementing effective literacy practices
