#FridayFact Answer

Today's #FridayFact asked: Which of these states has never sent a woman to Congress?

You selected from the following choices.

  • Maryland
  • South Carolina
  • Georgia
  • Vermont

The correct answer was Vermont. Previously one of two states (Mississippi and Vermont), Vermont is now the only state to have never sent a woman to Congress. Cindy Hyde-Smith is the Republican Senator-designee of the U.S. Senate from the state of Mississippi. She was appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant to replace Sen. Thad Cochran, who resigned effective April 1. Hyde-Smith is the first woman to represent Mississippi in Congress.
