MADISON, Wisconsin: Texas had 36 U.S. House seats on the ballot in 2012. A total of 29 incumbents sought re-election on November 6, 2012.
Two congressional districts saw partisan switches in the general election. Texas also gained four seats as a result of census redistricting. The 23rd Congressional District's incumbent Francisco Canseco (R) was defeated by his challenger Pete Gallego (D). The 25th Congressional District became more Republican as a result of redistricting, which led to Lloyd Doggett's decision to run in the 35th Congressional District where he won and Roger Williams (R) winning the 25th Congressional District seat. Two of the three other newly created districts also were won by Democratic candidates. The 33rd Congressional District was won by Marc Veasey (D) and the 34th Congressional District was won by Filemon Vela (D). The remaining congressional district, the 36th Congressional District was won by Steve Stockman (R). In all, the Democratic Party picked up three seats and the Republican Party picked up one in the general election.
