Born in Goddard, Kansas, I have always aspired to live in vibrant city of Wichita. Engaging in community service through Lions Club and volunteering at The Lord’s Dinner of The Diocese of Wichita became my favorite activities. I share my home with my beloved wife, Sadie Blubaugh, and we are both active members of St. Joseph Parish in Delano and I am a member of the Knights of Columbus. As a devout Roman Catholic, I passionately preserve our rich traditions and faith as part of TFP Student Action. Professionally, I have strong leadership skills from my time as a union carpenter with the Wichita Union. Currently, I manage my family's small donut shop, Mr. B's Daylight Donuts, in Goddard.
  • My mission is to promote public safety and ensure a safe environment for both new and existing families.
  • Protect small businesses and the workers of Wichita
  • Ensure that the government of Wichita remains transparent and accountable to its citizens, prioritizing the interests of the people over special interest groups.
Community Question Featured local question
The COVID-19 pandemic did not alter my approach to local policy issues significantly. My firm belief in prioritizing the needs and concerns of the citizens has remained unchanged. However, the pandemic did reinforce the importance of effective communication and responsiveness between the government and the community. One example of this is in the realm of public health measures. During the pandemic, it became evident that some government decisions were made without adequately considering the input of citizens and local businesses. This reinforced my commitment to ensuring that the government listens to the voices of the people it serves. Moving forward, I would strive to foster an environment where citizen engagement is valued and policy decisions are made in a collaborative manner, taking into account the diverse perspectives and experiences of the community. It is crucial to promote open dialogue and active participation to build a stronger and more inclusive local governance that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the citizens.
Community Question Featured local question
Yes rapidly, I believe it is crucial to stay informed about changes in crime rates to address public safety effectively. To ensure accuracy and reliability, I rely on multiple credible sources for crime rate data. My primary sources include data from the Wichita Police Department, FBI crime statistics, and independent investigations conducted by reputable organizations. By triangulating data from these various sources, I can gain a comprehensive understanding of crime trends and patterns in our community. If elected, I would continuously monitor this data to identify any shifts in crime rates and hotspots, enabling a proactive response to emerging safety challenges. Based on the evidence and insights gained from these sources, I would consider making necessary changes to existing public safety policies to ensure they remain effective in tackling crime and fostering a safer environment for all residents. My approach to public safety policy would be data-driven and responsive, grounded in evidence and focused on collaborative efforts to enhance community well-being and security.
Community Question Featured local question
I believe the downtown area is currently not in a healthy state. To me, a healthy downtown should be a safe, vibrant, and thriving hub of activity, offering a diverse range of businesses, cultural attractions, and community spaces that cater to the needs and interests of residents and visitors alike. We must focus on addressing the increase in crime in the downtown area by implementing the policies I propose for public safety. Additionally, the current downtown seems to be lacking in vitality, with several empty storefronts, limited cultural amenities, and a lack of green spaces for the community to enjoy. I would like to see changes that revitalize the area, such as encouraging the establishment of more local businesses and investing in cultural and recreational facilities. Furthermore, implementing pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and promoting sustainable transportation options would enhance accessibility and attract more foot traffic to the downtown. Additionally, focusing on affordable housing initiatives within the downtown area can foster a sense of community and ensure that people can live close to where they work and play. By making these changes, we can create a healthier and more dynamic downtown that enriches the lives of its residents and fosters economic growth in the region.

When citizens are actively engaged in shaping policies and governance, it leads to better outcomes that address their real needs and concerns. I believe that by including residents, the government can ensure that a diverse range of perspectives is considered, fostering a sense of ownership and empowerment among the populace. Transparent and participatory decision-making enhances trust and accountability, as citizens can see their voices being heard and their feedback taken seriously. As for my plans, I am committed to implementing various initiatives to encourage resident involvement. These include conducting regular public consultations, organizing town hall meetings, and establishing citizen advisory boards to facilitate meaningful dialogue between the government and the community. Additionally, I will develop accessible online platforms for feedback and ideas, and explore innovative approaches like participatory budgeting to give residents a direct say in how resources are allocated. By forging a strong partnership with our citizens, I aim to build a more responsive and people-centric governance that reflects the collective aspirations of our society.

In addition to streamlining the record request process, I would propose enacting policies that promote greater transparency in all aspects of governance. This includes advocating for public meetings to be easily accessible and encouraging the disclosure of relevant information to the community. As part of my commitment to accountability, I would also push for the implementation of clear performance metrics and regular reporting on council / election activities, ensuring that council members are held accountable for their decisions and actions. By creating a culture of openness and accountability, we can build stronger public trust and foster a more engaged and informed citizenry.

Addressing crime and ensuring public safety is a matter close to my heart, and I strongly believe that it requires a multifaceted approach that considers the unique needs of our community. Strengthening community-police partnerships through increased communication and trust-building is crucial for effective law enforcement. I am committed to investing in crime prevention programs that address the root causes of criminal behavior, such as poverty and lack of opportunities, to reduce crime rates sustainably. Prioritizing youth engagement through constructive activities is another aspect close to my heart. My vision is to create comprehensive victim support services that aid in the recovery and participation of crime victims in the justice process. While our approach may align with some aspects of the current city council policy, I will continually assess its effectiveness and be open to adjusting strategies based on the evolving needs and feedback of our constituents. By actively listening and incorporating community perspectives into policy development, I can ensure that our plans align with the genuine aspirations and goals of the people. We need more boots on the ground, bolstering our police force to ensure adequate coverage and response times. Additionally, I would advocate for increased resources and training for law enforcement officers to equip them with the tools they need to address modern-day challenges. While I acknowledge the importance of prevention and rehabilitation, it is also essential to take decisive action against criminal activities. My plans revolve around implementing initiatives aimed at restoring trust, enhancing transparency, and promoting accountability. To achieve this, I would prioritize regular community engagement programs, town hall meetings, and neighborhood policing efforts to ensure officers are accessible and responsive to the concerns of residents. Training programs will be expanded to include de-escalation techniques, cultural sensitivity, and bias awareness, ensuring that our officers are equipped to handle diverse situations with empathy and professionalism. Moreover, I will advocate for the use of body-worn cameras to promote transparency and accountability during police interactions. Additionally, I would work towards establishing an independent oversight body to review complaints and incidents involving law enforcement, ensuring a fair and impartial assessment of any issues that arise. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would prioritize policies that empower citizens to make informed decisions while safeguarding public health. I firmly believe in respecting individual freedoms, and thus, I would not vote in favor of any policy or law that forces mask mandates or lockdowns. Instead, I would advocate for providing accurate and up-to-date information to the public, encouraging voluntary mask-wearing and social distancing based on expert recommendations. I would also support the dissemination of comprehensive resources about the importance of vaccinations, enabling individuals to make their own choices regarding their health. Emphasizing education and awareness, I would collaborate with healthcare professionals and community leaders to promote responsible behavior and measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. Additionally, I would work towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure to ensure adequate medical support for those affected. My approach is driven by the belief that informed citizens are better equipped to protect themselves and their communities, striking a balance between safeguarding public health and respecting personal liberties during challenging times.

How much rather meet a positive influence like that in my life than any celebrity.
My economic ideas draw inspiration from Keynesian principles, which emphasize the importance of government intervention during economic downturns to stimulate demand and promote economic growth. Emphasizing the role of fiscal policy and advocating for measures like increased government spending and tax adjustments, I believe in addressing economic challenges proactively. However, when it comes to my political ideas, I am an eclectic thinker, drawing from a vast range of ideologies rather than adhering to one specific school of thought. I find value in exploring diverse perspectives, from liberalism and conservatism to socialism and capitalism , as I believe each ideology offers unique insights into various aspects of governance and societal organization.

As an individual with a unique perspective on politics, I don't adhere to any particular ideology but rather take influence from a diverse range of political ideas that I believe are best for the citizens. Reading books like "The Federalist Papers" by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, as well as "The Conscience of a Conservative" by Barry Goldwater, can shed light on classic conservative principles. For a deeper understanding of liberal ideals, works like "The Road to Serfdom" by Friedrich Hayek and "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander offer valuable insights. Additionally, exploring political essays from various authors, watching documentaries on different political movements, and engaging in open discussions with individuals from diverse political backgrounds can further enrich one's understanding of my approach to governance. Ultimately, the key is to remain open-minded and consider multiple perspectives to form a well-rounded understanding of my political philosophy.

Throughout my life, one significant struggle that I have faced is overcoming a persistent fear of failure. As a candidate for this office, one of my primary concerns is the prevalence of backdoor deals and the influence of bureaucrats in the Wichita City. My goal is to foster a culture of openness and engagement, ensuring that the people of Wichita are well-informed and actively involved in shaping the policies and decisions that directly affect their lives and community.
While previous experience in government or politics can certainly be advantageous, I strongly believe that it is not an absolute necessity for holders of this office. What truly matters is a good understanding of politics and a genuine commitment to serving the community. The beauty of our democratic system lies in the fact that anyone with a good mind and a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people can run for office. It is essential to value diverse perspectives and to recognize that fresh ideas and innovative approaches can come from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. While experience can offer valuable insights, it should not be the sole determining factor in evaluating a candidate's suitability for public office. What truly counts is the dedication, integrity, and willingness to work tirelessly for the betterment of the community. As long as a candidate possesses these qualities and a genuine desire to make a positive impact, they can bring valuable contributions to the office and effectively serve the people they represent.
The skills and expertise that I believe would be most helpful for holders of this office to possess include the ability to bring people together and foster collaborative solutions. As a candidate, I take pride in my aptitude for understanding multiple points of view on complex issues, allowing for inclusive and well-rounded decision-making. Additionally, my willingness to learn new things and quickly grasp new concepts is a valuable asset in adapting to the ever-changing landscape of governance and policy. Effective communication skills are also essential, as they enable constructive dialogue with constituents and stakeholders. Moreover, being a proactive problem solver and possessing a strong sense of empathy are crucial for addressing the diverse challenges that arise in public service. Furthermore, a solid grasp of the legal framework and a commitment to upholding ethical standards are vital to maintain the integrity of this office. By combining these skills and expertise, I am confident in my ability to serve with integrity, transparency, and a strong dedication to the well-being of the community I represent.
