Martin provided the following statement on her Facebook campaign page:

Here is a little about me. I grew up in the Wausau Area and graduated from Wausau East High School. After college I returned to Wausau to start my career and raise a family. I have been professional educator for over 30 years. I am currently the Library Media Specialist at D.C. Everest Middle School. My husband is also a native of Wausau. Both of our children graduated from Wausau East High School. They received an excellent public education. I am worried about the current state of education in Wisconsin. I want to serve the community as a Wausau School Board member to ensure that public education remains strong in our community.[7]
