Five seats on the Bethlehem Area School Board were up for election on November 5, 2013. The candidate field was narrowed in a primary election held on May 21, 2013.
Michael Faccinetto, Shannon Patrick and Angela Sinkler ran unopposed and won the three at-large seats. Rogelio Ortiz and Shannon Patrick ran unopposed and won Region 1 and 2 seats respectively.
About the district
Bethlehem is located in Northampton County, which is located in eastern Pennsylvania. The population of Bethlehem is 75,103 according to the 2010 Census.[1]
Demographics
According to the 2010 Census, the percentage of residents with a high school degree (84.8%) in Bethlehem was lower than the state of Pennsylvania (87.9%) while the percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher was higher in Bethlehem (27.1%) compared to the state overall (26.7%). The median household income in Bethlehem was $45,631 compared to Pennsylvania's statewide median of $51,651.[1]

Method of Election
The Bethlehem Area School Board consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. Most of the board is elected at-large and represents the entirety of the district, while two members of the board represent certain regions in the district. The primary election for the Bethlehem Area School Board was held on May 21, 2013 and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Five seats were up for election on November 5, 2013 and the remaining four seats were up for election on November 3, 2015.[3]

What was at stake?
Five seats were up for re-election in 2013, including board president Michael Faccinetto and appointed member Shannon Patrick's region two seat. Patrick was appointed to the board in 2011 following fellow board member, Michael Cann's, win of both the at-large and region two seats. The region two seat was up for election again in 2015. Board members Irene Follweiler, William Burkhardt and Aurea Ortiz did not file to seek re-election.[5]
