| “ | What is your view of the state of the school district?
Area schools are doing well in terms of student performance. Parenting forums openly discussing with parents concerns and initiatives has been successful. However, as a parent living in Wayzata School District I continue being concerned about the minority education achievement gaps. According to reports, Minnesota's public schools excel in test scores, the achievement gaps between white kids and students of color, and between low-income and high-income students, are still significantly larger than national averages. I believe we have opportunities to improve and I would be honored to have that opportunity. What is the biggest issue facing your district right now? 1. The continuing rapid growth of students within the classrooms. I understand and appreciate prioritizing responsible management of growth, while maintaining a deliberate focus on the students and teachers well-being for creating a productive and quality educational learning environment. 2. The concerns and impacts on students with the proposal to move school start times. What skills and expertise will you contribute to the school board? I have over 15 years of comprehensive experience effectively delivering on results and solutions. I am a highly skilled communicator with expertise and ability to interact within all levels in a business. I am a strategic planner successfully executing on a variety of programs and services. Some core competencies include: Talent Management, Conflict Resolution, Culture Steward, Project Management, Business Strategy, Leadership Development Why are you running? I am passionate for diversity and education. Also about serving the Wayzata School District focused on doing what’s right for ALL children. I believe I bring a diverse perspective having only been in Minnesota for 2 years moving from Memphis, TN. My daughter and son are both attending school in the district and I am passionate about partnering with the teachers for their success. I feel that my passion, open & fair-minded, and collaborative style will allow me to effectively and appropriately challenge when needed and bridge gaps where needed, creating opportunities of change. I would be honored to have that opportunity. Why should you be elected? I bring a parent’s perspective and have been able to work with the people and processes on all levels. As a parent living in Wayzata School District I continue being concerned about the Minority education achievement gap. According to some reports, While Minnesota's public schools excel in test scores, the achievement gaps between white kids and students of color, and between low-income and high-income students, are still significantly larger than national averages. I am thorough, detail-oriented, and driven to seek solutions through collaboration. I feel that my passion for diversity & education will provide a broader awareness for all District families.[3] |
