Three seats on the Box Elder School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. Precincts 3, 4 and 7 were up for re-election.

In the Precinct 3 race, JuDean Parkinson and Wade H. Hyde faced off since incumbent Heather Young did not file for re-election, with Hyde winning the general election. In the Precinct 4 race, newcomer Carrie Ann King Johnson ran unopposed since incumbent James Fuller did not file for re-election. Precinct 7 incumbent Karen Cronin won unopposed as well.

Box Elder School District is located in Box Elder County, Utah. The county seat is Brigham City. Box Elder County was home to 51,518 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2012-2013 school year, Box Elder School District was the 14th-largest school district in Utah and served 11,177 students.[2]

Demographics

Box Elder County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Utah in terms of higher education achievement and median household income in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 21.2 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 30.3 percent for Utah as a whole. The median household income was $57,292 compared to $58,821 for the state of Utah. The poverty rate in Box Elder County was 8.8 percent compared to 12.7 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Box Elder Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms by specific geographic zone. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Three seats were up for election in 2014.[4]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on March 14, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 20, 2014.[5]
