Two seats on the Bryan Independent School District Board of Trustees were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The seats of Single Member District 4 incumbent Kelli Levey and At-large Place 7 incumbent Tommy Bosquez were up for election.[1] Bosquez filed for re-election and faced challenger Mark McCall, who won the seat. Levey did not file for re-election and two challengers sought the open seat: Jimmie Arnold and Ruthie Waller.[2] Waller was successful in securing the District 4 seat.

Brazos County was home to an estimated 203,164 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[3] Bryan Independent School District was the 72nd-largest school district in Texas, serving 15,611 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[4]

Demographics

Brazos County outperformed the rest of Texas in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 38.8 percent of Brazos County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.7 percent for the state as a whole. Voter and candidate information

The Bryan Board of Trustees consists of seven members who are elected to three-year terms. Five members at elected by district and two at-large.[6] There was no primary election, and the general election for two seats was held November 3, 2015.[7]

A member of the board must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the district. An individual seeking office must be a resident of the state for 12 months and a resident of the district for six months, prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot. The deadline to file for a place on the general election ballot was August 24, 2015.[7] Voters had to register to vote by October 5, 2015, to cast ballots in this election.
