A City of El Monte Extension of Mayoral Term, Measure EM ballot question was on the November 5, 2013, election ballot for voters in the city of El Monte in Los Angeles County, which is in California. It was defeated.
This measure was one of two options the city voters had for how the mayor was elected. Both were defeated. This measure would have extended the mayoral term of office to four years like every other council member, instead of two. The other measure, Measure ER, would have established a council with five members all with four year terms, who would have shared the title of mayor on a rotating basis. Whichever measure had received more than 50% approval was supposed go into effect. If both measures had received more than 50% approval, the measure with the greatest number of "yes" votes would have been approved.[1][2]
