Rechtschaffen was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown (D) on December 28, 2016, and assumed office on January 1, 2017.[1] Rechtschaffen left office at the end of his term, effective January 1, 2023.[2]

Biography

Prior to his appointment to the California Public Utilities Commission, Rechtschaffen worked as a senior advisor to Governor Jerry Brown (D) for energy and environmental policy from 2011 to 2017. He previously worked for the California Attorney General's Office as a special assistant attorney general and as a deputy attorney general. He was also an environmental law professor at the Golden Gate University School of Law.[3][4]
