I'm Corey Forrest, and I'm running for Pittsboro Town Commissioner to help guide our community through a time of growth and change. As a Land Surveyor, and Chair of the Pittsboro Planning Board, I understand both the challenges and opportunities ahead. I believe in smart growth, protecting our environment, investing in infrastructure, and keeping the small-town character of Pittsboro. Most of all I will listen to you - the people who call Pittsboro home - and work to ensure our town grows in a way that benefits everyone.
  • Pittsboro is growing quickly and with that growth comes both opportunity and challenge. We need to ensure new development strengthens our community instead of overwhelming it. I will advocate for responsible growth that balances housing, business, and parks. New development should pay its fair share toward infrastructure, and the town must use all of its tools to shape the growth in ways that protect the character of Pittsboro.
  • Pittsboro is becoming more expensive, making it harder for teachers, first responders and working families to live here. A prosperous community needs a range of housing. I will support policies that encourage diverse housing choices. I'll push for affordable and workforce housing in new developments and explore incentives that make it possible for residents to live closer to where they work.
  • The small-town feel, history, and sense of community are what make Pittsboro so special. As growth comes to us we need to make sure that we preserve these things that make the community what we love. I will advocate for new parks, trails, and recreational spaces. I'll work to protect historical landmarks and ensure that major town decisions include as much public input as possible.
I'm passionate about policies that keep Pittsboro safe, affordable, and livable as we grow. More specifically, Housing and smart growth, infrastructure and utilities, and transparent and efficient government.
I believe the most important principles for an elected official are transparency, accountability, and a genuine commitment to serving the public interest. Transparency builds trust by ensuring that decisions are made openly and with clear communication. Accountability means taking responsibility for outcomes and being willing to listen to feedback, even when it's difficult. And above all, an elected official must act with integrity and fairness, putting the needs of the community before personal or political gain. these qualities ate what allow leaders to earn and keep the trust of the people they represent.
This is a very simple answer for me and likely a very boring one for anyone to read, but I want to leave a legacy that my son is one day proud of. As much as I am proud of him and the things he's doing, I want him to be able to feel the same when he's asked to describe his father.
As so many my age would likely answer was 9/11. I was in 5th grade science class when it felt like the whole country just stopped. Being as young as I was, I didn't fully grasp the impact of what just happened, nor did I have any clue how it would later shape my future in the form of service in the United States Marine Corps.
My very first job was on a small farm in my hometown of Bristolville, Oh. I spent 2 summers in my early teens on wagons in the fields and hay lofts bailing and stacking hay.
This board serves as the direct link between the community and the decisions that shape out town's future. Commissioners have the responsibility to balance growth with preservation, to ensure that infrastructure and services keep pace with demand, and to safeguard the character and quality of life that make Pittsboro special. The role requires listening closely to residents, weighing diverse perspectives, and making choices that are both practical and forward looking. This blend of representation, stewardship, and decision making makes the board vital to the success of our town.
