Newbern ran for election to the 2nd District Court.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on May 20, 2014, receiving 21.5 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Judge Chris Hollowell and Jeremy Ian Smith.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 34.7 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Judge Chris Hollowell. [1][2] 

Education

Newbern graduated in 1994 from Paducah Tilghman High School and earned his B.A. in history and English from the Centre College in 1998. He received his J.D. from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2003.[3]
