Campaign themes

2017

Stirratt highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

Community Engagement

I believe School Board members are just one part of the conversation that makes Bloomington Schools the best they can be. We need elected officials that bring together, engage with, and listen to our residents: at board meetings and roundtable events; in coffeeshops and living rooms.

Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity

The Bloomington of today is a very different community from the one I grew up in. It is a better Bloomington, enriched by an increasingly diverse population. I am proud of the daily evidences of inclusion I witness in our community and grieve the tragic examples of when we lose sight of that value. I support equity initiatives that strive to promote fairness. As a member of the School Board, I will be a proactive advocate for diversity, inclusion, and equity in our schools.

Strategic Budgeting

Budgets are more than numbers on a page; budgets empower priorities and values. Rather than mechanically reviewing and approving prepared budgets, I believe School Board members need to work collaboratively with administrators to identify key initiatives that address important issues that are affecting our students, educators, and schools. Click here to see my top priorities for the school board budgeting process.

2017 Referendum

As a parent of kids in Bloomington Public Schools and as a resident of Bloomington, it is important to me that revenue from our local taxes is being used wisely and effectively to support quality education for all of our students. I fully support the operating referendum that will be on the ballot on November 7th. I encourage you to learn more about it and vote in favor of it. Information can be found here.[3]
