Lifelong resident of Douglas County. Former State Representative and past Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party.

Created and operated independent insurance agency for more than 30 years. Initiated the formation of the the local chamber of commerce in Eudora where my business operated.

Married Marjorie in 1979 and lost her to breast cancer in 2017. Married Kathleen Ammel (OD) in 2019. One step daughter - Samantha.

Attends and supports local Presbyterian church.
  • We live in a one party county and we all pay dearly for it.

Repeat We live in a one party county and we all pay dearly for it.

The Democrats completely control all positions in government and can tax at will with nearly no push back. We must elect candidates who will not just go along with the TAX and SPEND program of the Democrats.
  • Government spending must be controlled at all levels of government. I am horrified at the current federal administration. We are OVER SPENDING at the rate of TWO TRILLION DOLLARS alone in this federal fiscal year. I want to be a voice for fiscal responsibility. That includes our state taxes which are too high. People NEED residential property tax relief and I will work for that.
  • I am deeply concerned about reports that the authority and right of parents to raise their children as they see fit is under attack. Obviously no child should be in an abusive situation. So I understand intervention in such a case. But undermining parental authority is just unacceptable to me.
Enacting tight budgets and protecting individual rights.
I try to be attentive when listening to people. I have extensive experience working with people from all walks of life. Both in my business and prior public service I have learned a great deal about working with people. I believe I have been successful in that regard.
I also have a wealth of experience in government and believe I can help shape good public policy.
I want to leave things better when I leave them than when I found them.
The summer after my senior year in High School I got a job in Lawrence at the downtown flower shop. Allison-Thomas. I was the shop boy and delivery boy. Worked there part time when I enrolled at KU. Needed a job so I could live on the Hill. I did not want to live at home in Eudora although that would be easy. I wanted to be fully living the college life. Worked for Homer Allison for 2 years.
I too much like to eat what I should not eat. Very bad sweet tooth.
respectful regard for the role that each has in good government
Yes to a certain yet small degree. It is easy to get caught in a personal relationship that can lead one to help with passing a measure that might not be the best for your community or the state as a whole. Good judgment is essential.
Sadly, Republicans who fear political discussions with their neighbors because of political differences. Very sad that they fear expressing their views out loud. Very sad. I have heard this NUMEROUS times all over Lawrence.
Grant them only if there is oversight and accountability.
Budget - Ways and Means
Very high standards. Transparency is critical to accountability.
I generally favor measures that promote public participation.
