Biography
David Haley, as of February 2020, lives in Kansas City, Kansas. He earned a degree from Morehouse College and a law degree from Howard University. Haley’s career experience includes working as an Assistant District Attorney with Wyandotte County.[1]

Issues
Medical marijuana
In February 2014, Haley criticized Mary Pilcher-Cook, the chairwoman of the Kansas Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare, for leaving untouched his legislation that would establish rules and regulations for medical marijuana in Kansas. Pilcher-Cook opposed the medical marijuana legislation in 2013 and did not comment on whether or not she would allow a hearing on Senate Bill 9, called the Cannabis Compassion and Care Act, in 2014. “I don’t think the Legislature would be for it. We have a very limited session. You have to look at the opportunity costs,” Pilcher-Cook said in an interview. The bill was originally submitted in January 2013. Haley responded by saying that Pilcher-Cook and Senate President Susan Wagle have intentionally suppressed the issue. “This is a discussion of national prominence now, and to put your head in the sand or put your hands over your ears and say ‘I just don’t want to hear it’ really smacks of a certain level of inability to learn that’s troubling,” Haley said in an interview. “It troubles me to think that there are people in elected office like that.”[2]
