David Newblatt is a judge for the 7th Circuit Court (Family Division) in Genesee County, Michigan. He was appointed to the Genesee County Probate Court by Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm in February 2004 and was elected to his current position on the circuit court that November. He took office in January 2005.[1] He was re-elected in 2010 and 2016.[2]

Education

Newblatt received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1988 and his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School in 1991.[3]

Career

Newblatt began his career in 1991 as an attorney in private practice. He then worked as an assistant Genesee County prosecutor from 1995 until his judicial appointment in February 2004. He served on the Genesee County Probate Court through 2004, before he joined the circuit court in January of 2005.[1][3]

Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[4] Incumbent Duncan M. Beagle, incumbent Joseph Farah, and incumbent David Newblatt were unopposed in the 7th Circuit general election (3 open seats).[2]

Newblatt was re-elected, along with 2 other judges, in the general election on November 2, 2010. He received 32.10 percent of the vote.[5]
