Durango R-9 School District Levy Increase (November 2010)
A Durango R-9 School District Levy Increase measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the Durango school district which is in La Plata County.
This measure was approved
- YES 8,463 (56.18%)
- NO 6,600 (43.82%)[1]
This measure sought to add an increased levy to local property taxes at a rate which would add $3.2 million a year to the district budget. The money would go towards re-establishing cut programs and services the district made for the 2011 school year.[2]
Before the decision by the board was made to ask for this levy increase, a survey was completed to see if residents would support the measure. Board members said they hoped to gauge the reaction to increased taxes and gauge the support for schools.[3] The survey results were positive and supportive of the tax, thus board members decided to go ahead with formulating a ballot question for November.[4]
Current Statewide
A 2013 statewide measure, Amendment 66, would authorize Colorado to increase taxes with an expected revenue increase of $950 million for school funding.[5]
