Elizabeth Carroll Wingo is an associate judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She was confirmed to that position on a voice vote of the United States Senate on June 23, 2016.[1] Prior to her elevation as an associate judge, she was a magistrate judge on the same court.[2]

Education

Wingo received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, and her J.D. from Yale Law School.[2]

Professional career

Wingo's first career in the legal profession was as a paralegal with Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering. Next, she joined the Jesuit Volunteers Corps, where she was a volunteer coordinator with a Pediatric AIDS Program in New Orleans. Wingo has worked in private practice and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. After receiving her law degree, she clerked for Judge T.S. Ellis.[2]

Wingo was nominated by President Barack Obama on November 30, 2015, to serve as an associate judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to succeed Judge Ann O'Regan Keary, who retired from judicial service. Obama stated on the nomination: "I am pleased to nominate Mr. Berk and Judge Wingo to serve on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. I am confident they will serve the District of Columbia with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice."[3]

Hearings on Wingo's nomination were held on March 2, 2016, before the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on April 25, 2016. Wingo was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on June 23, 2016.[1]
