Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Kingson's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Campaign Finance: If this election season has proved anything, it’s that the American people are fed up with a corrupt campaign system and politicians who are more beholden to big money donors than to the people they are supposed to represent. These massive donations are undermining our democracy and have facilitated the widening gap between the wealthiest Americans and the rest of the population.
  • Economy: We must be focused on ensuring future economic growth is shared by all Americans, and not just concentrated on the wealthiest. We need an economy that works for all working Americans.
  • Education & Student Loans: The promise of universal education is a cornerstone of democracy, but today we are failing too many of America’s most precious resource: our children. Decades of purposeful underfunding of our nation’s public schools have allowed for-profit education corporations to use our schoolhouses more like piggybanks for plundering than places for molding future generations.
  • Environment: Protecting our environment is a moral imperative. We have an obligation to leave a healthy, thriving planet for our younger generations. Not only are we at risk from the environmental and economic effects of global climate change, but some of the largest national security threats facing our country moving forward will stem from the impacts of climate change on people around the world.
  • Health Care: Over 16 million people gained insurance as a result of The Affordable Care Act (ACA), insurance companies can no longer deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, young adults can stay on a parent’s insurance plan until age 26 and the rate of increase in health costs has slowed.
