Four seats on the Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees were up for general election on November 4, 2014.

Incumbent Mark GiaQuinta and challengers Anne Duff and Jeannette Jaquish competed for two at-large seats. Incumbents Julia Hollingsworth and Jordan Lebamoff ran unopposed and won re-election in District 1 and District 4. Incumbent Mark GiaQuinta and newcomer Anne Duff defeated challenger Jeannette Jaquish to win the two at-large seats.

Fort Wayne Community Schools is located in Allen County, Indiana. The county seat of Allen County is Iola. Allen County is home to 363,014 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Fort Wayne Community Schools was the second-largest school district in Indiana and served 30,821 students.[2]

Demographics

Allen County outperformed in comparison to the rest of Indiana in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 26.4 percent of Allen County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 23.0 percent for Indiana as a whole. The median household income in Allen County was $50,030 compared to $48,374 for the state of Indiana. The poverty rate in Allen County was 14.4 percent compared to 14.7 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Fort Wayne Board of School Trustees consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Five members are elected by geographic electoral district and two are elected at-large. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Four seats were on the ballot in 2014.[4]

The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was August 22, 2014.[5]

Newcomer Jordan Lebamoff ran unopposed and won the election by default.

Endorsements

Incumbent Mark GiaQuinta and challenger Anne Duff received endorsements from The Journal Gazette and The News-Sentinel.[6][7] Duff also received endorsements from The Network for Public Education, 1L PAC and Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz (D).[8]
