Guisto provided the following statement on his campaign website:

My name is Gary Guisto and I have chosen to run for the Kyrene School Board for two very important reasons: my two daughters. Both of my daughters attend Kyrene del Cielo Elementary School and I am committed to improving the quality of the Kyrene School District for all of the students of the District. I am not a politician and this is not a political stepping stone. I am truly a concerned citizen and father who brings dedication, desire and a healthy dose of common sense.

I am a member of the Kyrene del Cielo PTO Board and have served as such for the past three years. I am also a member of the Parent Superintendent Council. These experiences have demonstrated the need to have active, concerned parents involved in the Kyrene School District. We are fortunate to have our children attend quality schools but maintaining and improving that quality will not happen without committed individuals looking out for the best interests of the students and the faculty. I am committed to maximizing the resources for the education of the students at Kyrene schools. I am concerned about maintaining the quality of education and teaching staff in the face of declining revenues and increased competition.

As a member of the Kyrene School Board, I will work to ensure that the Kyrene continues to provide a quality education for all students. I will endeavor to foster an educational environment where students thrive and develop so they are prepared to become productive adults. It is important to communicate with the teachers and administration in the schools to identify the greatest needs and make sure the resources are available.

The Board must also consider the wants and desires of the parents in fulfilling the job of educating children. My wife and I have been involved in our daughters’ school and with the District Board in advocating for important programs for the education of our students. As a Board Member, I will work with parents in identifying the educational priorities and then make sure the District Board is fully aware of the parents concerns when making decisions that impact the schools, the teachers and the students.

While I do think the word “transparency” has become overused, the need to have effective and continuous communication is vital to the success of the District. I am committed to making sure parents, teachers and the administration are informed and have an open avenue to voice concerns. I am hard-working and committed to success and I ask for your support and your vote.[4]
