Gary J. Bruce is a judge of the Berrien County Trial Court in Michigan.[1] He was first elected to the court in 1998.[2]

Bruce received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in 1975 and his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1980. Before joining the court in 1998, he worked for 18 years in private practice with a focus in litigation. He has also served as a Berrien County assistant prosecuting attorney from 1983 to 1987.[2]

Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[3] Incumbent Gary J. Bruce and incumbent Dennis M. Wiley were unopposed in the 5th District general election (2 open seats).[4]

Judge Bruce was re-elected (along with Dennis M. Wiley) in the general election on November 2, 2010. He received 50.85 percent of the vote.[5]

Judges of the Michigan District Courts are each elected to six-year terms.[6] The elections for this court are nonpartisan contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a qualified elector of the district, licensed to practice law in the state, under the age of 70, and have five years of experience practicing law.
