General: She was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 39.5 percent of the vote. She competed against David Hagerman.

Burns earned a B.S. from Texas Christian University in 1982, going on to receive his J.D. from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1986.[4]
