Three seats on the Henderson County Public Schools school board were up for general election on November 4, 2014. Incumbents Lisa Edwards and Amy Lynn Holt ran against Michael Absher, Colby Coren and Sonia Rollins Gironda for the open positions. Edwards, Holt and Coren won the open seats.

Henderson County Public Schools is located in Henderson County, North Carolina. The county seat of Henderson County is Hendersonville. Henderson County is home to 109,540 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Henderson County Public Schools was the 28th-largest school district in North Carolina and served 13,536 students.[2]

Demographics

Henderson County outperformed in comparison to the rest of North Carolina in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 27.8 percent of Henderson County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 26.8 percent for North Carolina as a whole. The median household income in Henderson County was $46,503 compared to $46,450 for the state of North Carolina. The poverty rate in Henderson County was 13.5 percent compared to 16.8 percent for the entire state.[1]

The Henderson school board consists of seven members elected to four-year terms at-large. There was no primary election and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Three seats were on the ballot in 2014.[4]
