On June 30, 2011 Iowa lawmakers negotiated a $5.99 billion budget deal.[1] The budget included more than $2.3 billion in federal funds for Medicaid.[2]
In August 2011, Iowa Auditor David Vaudt said that despite the $5.99 billion cap, the state spending actually totaled $6.4 billion when factoring in spending that was shifted to accounts other than the state general fund. Vaudt added that the use of one-time money declined 92 percent.[2]
