Jack B. Schmetterer was a federal bankruptcy judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Northern District of Illinois. He was first appointed to the court on May 9, 1985, which was later extended by six months. Schmetterer was reappointed for a second term effective November 6, 1999. He retired on December 31, 2011.[1][2][3]

Education and early life

Judge Schmetterer attended Yale University for his bachelor's degree in 1952 and would earn his J.D. in 1955. After graduating he served the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.[1]

  • 1971-1973: First Assistant State's Attorney of Cook County
  • 1963-1970: Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois
