Jake Oeth is a Democratic political strategist from Des Moines, Iowa. He was the Iowa state director for Martin O'Malley's 2016 presidential campaign.[1] Previously, Oeth was the political director for former U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley's (D-Iowa) 2014 U.S. Senate campaign.[2]
Career
Jake Oeth, a former basketball player for Loras College, began his political career as a legislative correspondent for U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) from 2009 to 2010.[3][4] Oeth then began work with Bruce Braley, first on Braley's 2012 U.S. House campaign. Oeth was eventually promoted to district director in December 2012.[5]
In 2014, Braley declined to run for re-election to the U.S. House, choosing to campaign for U.S. Senate instead.[6] Oeth was the political director for Braley.[7] Braley lost the election to Sen. Joni Ernst (R), but Iowa Starting Line characterized the campaign as one that notably "employed many very talented mid- and lower-level staffers throughout the state."[7]
Martin O'Malley presidential campaign, 2016
Jake Oeth joined Martin O'Malley's political action committee, O'Say Can You See PAC, on December 15, 2014.[8] O'Malley announced his presidential run on May 30, 2015.[9]
Of Oeth's hiring, Iowa Starting Line noted: "Whatever role Oeth might eventually serve on an O’Malley presidential run in Iowa, it’s a great get for the former Maryland governor. Well-respected inside the party, Oeth is particularly well-liked by county-level activists around the state."[7]
O'Malley suspended his presidential campaign on February 1, 2016.[10]
