James L. Dyer is a former candidate for the 37th Circuit Court in Michigan.[1] Dyer was defeated in the primary election on August 2, 2016. Upon taking the job of Calhoun County corporate counsel, Dyer announced in June 2016 that he would no longer actively campaign for judge, although it was too late to remove his name from the ballot.[2]

Dyer also ran for the 37th Circuit Court in 2014.[3]

Dyer received a B.A. from Michigan State University and a J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.[4] Dyer is an attorney in private practice and has served as the mayor of Marshall, Mich. He previously served as a prosecutor in Wayne County and worked as an in-house corporate attorney.[5]

Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[6] Tina Yost and John Sims defeated Kate Ambrose and James L. Dyer in the 37th Circuit primary election .[1]
