James C. Tormey, III was the District Administrative Judge for the 5th Judicial District of New York from 2000 to 2019. He was appointed to this position in 2000. He also served as a justice of the Onondaga County Supreme Court from 1995 to 2019.[1][2] Tormey died on June 22, 2019.[3]

Education

Caruso received his B.A. degree from the State University of New York College at Cortland in 1972 and his J.D. degree from Syracuse University in 1976.[4][2]

Career

Caruso began his career in 1977 as an Onondaga County legislator. He worked in this capacity for ten years, until 1987. During this time, he also worked as an attorney for the Robert A. Schuh Law Office (1979-1980) and an attorney (and later, partner) of the Williams, Micale & Wells Law Firm (1980-1987).

Caruso began his judicial career in 1987 when he was elected to the Syracuse City Court. He was then appointed to the Onondaga County Supreme Court in 1995. He was elected to a full term later that year and was re-elected in 2010. Starting in 2000, he served as the Administrative Judge of the 5th Judicial District.[2]
