My name is Jaria Jaug, pronounced like 'Mariah' but with a 'J'. I am a proud product of our Berryessa schools, lifelong San Jose resident, and daughter of Filipino immigrants. Currently, I serve as a District Representative for the CA State Assembly and so I already have an understanding of how to bring state funding down to our local schools. On the school board, I hope to foster student success by bringing more afterschool programs like homework/tutoring centers to meet students where they are at -to let them catch up if they need to or go beyond if they want to.
  • Being raised in Berryessa and having gone to our Berryessa schools (Brooktree Elementary and Morrill Middle) and through the entire public school system as a queer first generation child of immigrants, I gained a key perspective in knowing what resources our students need to succeed and become leaders for our community.
  • As a District Representative, assisting North San Jose, I have hands-on experience with collaborating with different levels of government through event planning and social work. As a liaison for North San Jose, I have also coordinated ways for Berryessa schools to receive state funding in collaboration with the school board.
  • My top priority will be to foster student success by meeting students where they are at by providing afterschool programs and expanding mental health assistance.
I am personally passionate about public policy that brings equity and inclusion to our schools. These policies include policies that will be provide free resources to our struggling students like homework/tutoring centers, afterschool wi-fi access, free and reduced lunch, and proactive outreach to our parents. These policies will not only bring our struggling students to grade level, but it will also ensure that our students can become lifelong learners and leaders. Every student deserves to receive the best education possible, so striving to provide resources that can assist any and all students is my top priority.
