I am 52 years old, Roman Catholic, of Irish-Italian descent, divorced, father of two wonderful children, Joseph Patrick Murray (23) and Casey Marie Murray (21). My son Joe is a Local One Plumber and my daughter Casey is attending Adelphi University in the Nursing program. Casey took the NYPD, NCPD, SCPD exams and was already called for the NYPD, but deferred her appointment until she graduates from Adelphi next year. I am a Queens native., the third of six children born to John and Maureen Murray, having lived in Howard Beach, Glendale, Bayside Hills, Little Neck and I currently reside in Bellerose since 2011. My father was an NYPD police officer who later rolled over to FDNY and retired in 1995. After I graduated graduated from John Adams H.S., in 1984, I went to work out in the cargo section of JFK Airport where my uncles were members of the Teamsters Local 295. In 1987 I followed in my father's footsteps and joined the NYPD where I served the City for 15 years in MTN Pct., 7th Pct, MSTF, 32 Pct, 115 Pct, and QNTF. In June of 2002, I retired from the NYPD to pursue a law degree. I graduated (cum laude) Queens College in 2003, I graduated from CUNY Law School in 2006, I passed the bar exam in 2006 and was officially admitted to practice in the courts of New York in February-2007. I was admitted to practice in EDNY and SDNY in 2009. I am an experienced trial lawyer having tried felony cases in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx and in federal court EDNY. I own my own law firm, located in the Silver Tower directly across the street from Queens Criminal Court, since 2009. I was an amateur boxer and member of the NYPD PBA International Police Boxing Team. I competed in three N.Y. Daily News Golden Gloves Tournaments and lost to my dear friend Monte Barrett in the finals of the NYC Metros in 1995. I competed with the PBA team in boxing matches and tournaments in England, Ireland, Tennessee, Colorado, Alabama, Texas, as well as the New York Metropolitan area.
  • I am recruiting the best of the best investigators for a new corruption-busting unit called 'Untouchables Squad' tasked with proactively pursuing evidence of corruption wherever it leads.
  • I will aggressively pursue violent crimes, particularly shootings and illegal gun possession, seeking severe prison sentences for these violent offenders
  • I will prosecute low level offenses and misdemeanor crimes, including quality of life offenses.
I am passionately opposed to closing Rikers Island and building neighborhood jails. This is the most ridiculous action taken by Mayor DeBlasio that must be stopped. We are the laughing stock of all major cities because we already have our jails on an island and are contemplating closing them so we can open up neighborhood jails. Let's fix the jails we have and stop wasting public funds on unnecessary and enormously expensive projects like this.||I am also passionately opposed to the placement of all of these various shelters throughout residential neighborhoods. It is destroying our neighborhoods and further endangering public safety. The city should utilize the other resources available to it like Wards Island and Randals Island. There are also numerous vacant buildings within the Creedmoor complex. ||I am further opposed to the anti-police rhetoric and conduct that endangers the lives of our police officers. This anti-police rhetoric and conduct must be condemned and assaults on police and resisting arrest must be punished accordingly. A civilized society does not conduct itself this way. I am a criminal defense attorney and have no problem calling out the police when appropriate. That is my job||I come from a union family and especially support the building trade unions. I will conduct criminal investigations into the numerous construction accidents and investigate evidence of fraud in bidding and contracts. I take a zero tolerance approach to corruption. |
The Queens District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer of Queens County. The District Attorney is responsible to seek blind justice for all by prosecuting and enforcing the law while respecting the state and federal constitutional rights of all parties.
I look up to my parents and grandparents. They were all good, honest, hardworking people who tried to make the world a better place.
I stand up for the truth and what is right, no matter how unpopular it may be or what the consequences are. I accept that people will disagree with me on the issues but they will know exactly where I stand on the issues because I do not pander and talk out of both sides of my mouth.
The core responsibilities of the Queens District Attorney includes to prosecute criminal cases within the law and respectful of the State and federal constitutional protections of the accused. It is also a core responsibility of the Queens District Attorney to endeavor to assist in victim services and also prevent crime through supporting crime prevention programs.
The NYC layoff of police and firefighters in 1975. I was 9 years old. My father was only out of work for a short time but my mother was not working and my father was already working two jobs to support our family of 8.
ARA services at Aqueduct Racetrack making pizzas in the grandstand. I worked during high school over the summer junior year. I worked at PowerTest gas station on Cross Bay Boulevard during high school. Junior to senior year.
'Shot to Pieces' written by my friend retired NYPD Detective Michael O'Keefe. I love Mike, an NYPD hero who brilliantly walks us through the darker struggles that some police officers go through as a good cop navigates the job.
As Queens District Attorney I represent 'The People of the State of New York' as their representative in the enforcement and prosecution of our state laws.
The Queens District Attorney's jurisdiction is not limited to the confines of Queens County. The law allows for geographical jurisdiction to be obtained over defendants in various other ways, thus the long arm of the law can reach into City Hall in Manhattan, the Governor's Mansion in Albany and beyond. I intend to exercise my geographical jurisdiction to the very limits of the law.
Yes, I believe that the holder of this office must have prior criminal justice experience. I have been both a criminal defense attorney and police officer in Queens County and I taught criminal justice at ASA College.
Someone with a strong criminal justice background. A good prosecutor must have the ability to think outside of the box and pursue criminal investigations from novel approaches to stay one step ahead of criminals. A good prosecutor should have a healthy working relationship with law enforcement and the Queens community. A prosecutor should not be a politician because a good prosecutor follows the evidence, not the crowd. A prosecutor must adhere to the highest ethical standards and have great integrity.
