John A. Jorgensen is a judge for the Winnebago County Circuit Court, Wisconsin. He was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2016.[1][2][3]

Wisconsin held general elections for local judicial offices on April 5, 2016. A primary election took place on February 16, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 5, 2016. Incumbent John Jorgensen ran unopposed in the Winnebago County Circuit Court general election for Branch 5.[3]

The 241 judges of the Wisconsin Circuit Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections to six-year terms. All judges must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving after their term expires.[4]

The chief judge of each circuit court is chosen by the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[4]

Qualifications
To serve on the circuit courts, a judge must be:[4]

  • a qualified elector in the state;
  • a qualified elector of his or her circuit (for circuit judges); and
  • licensed to practice law in the state for at least five years.

Jorgensen ran for a seat on the Winnebago County Circuit Court in 2010. He won enough votes in the February 16 primary to move forward to the spring election on April 6, 2010 where he was opposed by Edmund J. Jelinski. Jorgensen won the election with 10,525 votes to Jelinski's 8,724.[5][6]

Education

Jorgensen earned his B.S. from Marquette University in 1990 and his J.D. from Hamline University Law School in 1993.[2]

Military service

Jorgensen is an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General Corps, having joined in 1996.[2]
