Tennessee: Judge Don R. Ash was recently appointed to a different position with the Tennessee courts, that of a senior judge. These judges travel around the state and hear appellate and trial court cases as needed. Ash was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court, to a four-year term that is effective on September 1, 2012.[1]

Judge Ash has been a judge on the Sixteenth Circuit Court since 1994. During that time, he ran for re-election once unopposed.[2]

With his new appointment, Judge Ash will become only one of four senior judges in the state. Of the position, he said:

I am truly honored the Tennessee Supreme Court has appointed me to serve as a senior judge for our great state. The opportunity to try all types of cases across Tennessee, as well as sitting on various appellate courts, will certainly be a challenge, but I am truly excited about this new phase of my judicial career.[1][3]

As for a successor, Governor Bill Haslam will appoint a new judge to serve the remainder of Ash's term, which would have expired in 2014.
