Karen Falter was born in Columbus, Indiana. She earned a bachelor's degree from Miami University in 1991 and a J.D. from UIC John Marshall Law School in 1996. Her career experience includes working as a magistrate in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division.[1]

I graduated from UIC John Marshall Law School, cum laude. While in law school I was a member of, and , Staff Editor for Law Review. As a career public servant I have 23 years of courtroom experience. I have 10 years of experience as an assistant prosecutor, prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies. I also have 13 years of experience on the bench as a magistrate hearing cases, making rulings and writing decisions. As a magistrate in the Juvenile Division I presided over cases of abuse and neglect of children. My significant responsibilities included determining if children were abused or neglected and whether to remove them from their parents and place them in foster care, with relatives, reunify or terminate parental rights. As a current magistrate in the Court of Domestic Relations I preside over cases of divorce, dissolution, custody matters and domestic violence civil protection orders.
  • I am a passionate public servant with extensive courtroom experience as a former assistant prosecutor and as a current magistrate on the bench.
  • I am committed to ensuring integrity, impartiality, the rule of law and justice.
  • Having been on the bench for 13 years as a magistrate, I have the qualifications, experience and judicial temperament needed in the Court of Common Pleas.
I am passionate about our judicial system being fair, unbiased and impartial. Judges should not be activists on the bench but need to be committed to the rule of law.
