While I am very proud of the accomplishments the board has been able to implement over the past four years, I want to continue serving because there is more work to be done. It is not enough to be satisfied with past successes; we must continue to strive for greatness. Leading the board and administration through the complexities of a global pandemic has been challenging. Difficult decisions had to be made for the safety of our school family while following the guidelines and restrictions given to us by county and state health officials. Reflecting on these past months and my contributions during the pandemic is a big part of why I want to run again. The kids of our district must be at the forefront of all decisions as we consider policies and improvements to provide opportunities for their academic achievement, extracurricular experiences and social emotional well being. Our mission remains: "to instill in all students a passion for lifelong learning and to inspire each one to contribute as a responsible citizen to the future of our interconnected world." I have more to give to the Franklin Township community, it's students and families, and our teachers, staff and administrators.
  • My top priority is the kids of our district. Although the board's primary responsibilities are to set policy and hire the superintendent, the decisions we make every day impact our students and their opportunity for academic success. I will ensure that the board remains student focused.
  • My second priority is collaboration among our district's teachers, administrators and the board. Our greatest asset is our people - the ones who have the responsibility to work with our children each and every day. Their creativity and ideas for what works in the classroom are invaluable to the programs we implement.
  • Finally, our district continues to grow at a rapid pace (over 500 students in 2019 - 2020). I want to be a part of developing the long-term plan that is necessary to accommodate our growth, utilize our existing buildings to the fullest capacity and do all of this in the most fiscally responsible manner.
My qualifications for the job are threefold: community involvement, leadership style and problem-solving mindset. My community involvement demonstrates my knowledge of and long-term commitment to helping Franklin Township residents. Serving as the Mayor's Neighborhood Liaison and leading both the Franklin Township Civic League and Lion's Club are examples of my community engagement. Secondly, I am a good listener with an inclusive leadership style. My work in the neighborhoods of Perry and Franklin Townships, along with my volunteer work in Franklin Township, developed my ability to really listen to concerns and to communicate truthfully with people. Finally, I am a tireless worker when it comes to improving my community and the school system, because our schools are the foundation for a healthy and thriving Franklin Township. My record shows my willingness to work hard with others to resolve community issues and be proactive in other areas.
After receiving her bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Kelly went to work in paper manufacturing in Asheville, NC.
